Amadou Hott, candidate for the presidency of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in 2025, has over 25 years of experience in economic policy, development finance, and investment banking.
In 2012, the World Economic Forum named him a Young Global Leader.
His remarkable career includes his tenure as Minister of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation of Senegal from 2019 to 2022, where he played a crucial role in maintaining the country’s economic stability during the COVID-19 pandemic and successfully reforming the public-private partnership framework. In this role, he represented the African Union at major international forums including G7 and G20 meetings of ministers responsible for development and finance. He also acted as Sherpa for the President of the Republic of Senegal at the Paris Summit on financing African economies and as Co-chair of the steering committee.
A former first Vice-President of the Energy, Climate Change, and Green Growth Complex at the African Development Bank, he was recently the Special Envoy of the AfDB President for the Green Infrastructure Alliance in Africa. His diverse career extends to roles in government, development banks, and private sector finance in investment banking in Africa, America, Europe, and the Middle East. Hott is recognized for his leadership, dedication, and expertise in climate finance and infrastructure investment, particularly in energy. He holds degrees in applied mathematics, economics, and financial markets. Mr. Hott speaks four languages fluently.
