H.E. Tiémoko Meyliet KONE

Vice-President, Republic of Côte d'Ivoire

Since April 19, 2022, and following his swearing-in on April 20, 2022, Mr. Tiémoko Meyliet KONE has been serving as the Vice President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire.

After completing his higher education in economics, Mr. KONE pursued advanced studies in finance and monetary policy at the BCEAO Training Center from 1973 to 1975, and later at the International Monetary Fund Institute in Washington in 1979.

Upon joining the senior management of the BCEAO, he held several key positions within the institution, including:

Deputy National Director of the BCEAO for Côte d’Ivoire in 1987
Central Director of Issuance and Financial Operations at BCEAO headquarters in Dakar from 1988 to 1989
National Director of the BCEAO for Côte d’Ivoire and Alternate Governor at the International Monetary Fund from 1991 to 1998
Advisor to the Governor of the BCEAO and Director of the General Administration and Training Department from 1998 to 2002
General Controller, Special Advisor, and Member of the Bank’s Board of Governors from 2002 to 2006
In addition to his BCEAO duties, Mr. KONE served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the UEMOA Pension Fund (CRRAE-UMOA) from 1996 to 2006.

In 2007, Mr. Tiémoko KONE joined the Ivorian public administration, where he served as Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister with the rank of Minister (2007–2010), Minister of Construction, Urban Planning and Housing, and, from December 2010 to May 2011, as Special Advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of Economic and Monetary Affairs.

Mr. Tiémoko Meyliet KONE was appointed Governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) on May 30, 2011, by the Conference of Heads of State of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU). His mandate was subsequently renewed in 2014 and again in 2020.

As BCEAO Governor, Mr. KONE presided over several WAEMU bodies, including:

The Board of Directors of the BCEAO
The BCEAO Monetary Policy Committee
The WAEMU Financial Stability Committee
The WAEMU Banking Commission
The Steering Committee of the UMOA-TITRES Agency
The Board of Directors of the Deposit Guarantee Fund
On the international stage, Mr. KONE also chaired the following bodies:

The Conference of Governors of French-speaking countries
The Committee of Central Bank Governors of ECOWAS
The African Mobile Phone Financial Services Policy Initiative (AMPI)
On September 13, 2017, he became a member of the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), where the BCEAO represents Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and Southern Africa regions.
