Ibrahim Kalil KONATÉ is an Ivorian political figure and technocrat.
Appointed Minister of Digital Transition and Digitalization on October 17, 2023, in the government of Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé, Kalil Konaté is an engineer and expert in Electricity, Mining, and Digitalization in Côte d’Ivoire.
Biography
Education and Training
A graduate of the Institut National Supérieur de l’Enseignement Technique (INSET) Yamoussoukro, he holds a DESS (postgraduate diploma) in Energy Planning and Management. He also holds an engineering degree in Quality, with a focus on Industrial Enterprises, from the African Institute of Total Quality (IAQT/CESTI Paris).
Professional Career
His professional career began in June 1996 at PETROCI, followed by a stint at Nestlé in June 1997, before joining the National Bureau of Technical Studies and Development (BNETD) in September 1998, where he remained until November 2010.
At BNETD, he held several positions, including Coordinator of Foreign Projects, Head of the Industry, Energy and Mines Work Unit, and Technical Advisor to the Director General in charge of Industry, Energy, and Mines.
In August 2011, he was appointed Director General of the Ivorian Institute of Enterprise (INIE), with the mission of supporting the government’s ambition to foster strong SMEs. He launched a major project to identify Ivorian SMEs, providing the state with an effective tool to serve various SME profiles.
Prior to joining the government, Kalil KONATÉ served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Société pour le Développement Minier de la Côte d’Ivoire (SODEMI) since September 2021.
Political Engagement
Kalil Konaté is a member of the Executive Board of the Rassemblement des Houphouétistes pour le Développement et la Paix (RHDP). He has also served as President of the Hambol Regional Council since 2018, and was re-elected to this position in September 2023.
Contributions and Publications
He has published work on energy efficiency, rural electrification, and the optimal use of electricity in rural areas for economic and social development.
Social and Community Engagement
He is actively involved in social and community initiatives, as well as sustainable development projects in his region, particularly in areas such as rural electrification, access to drinking water, women’s empowerment, and support for widows and orphans.
Personal Life
Kalil Konaté is married and the father of six children.
