Kassim Majaliwa MAJALIWA

Prime Minister, United Republic of Tanzania

Rt. Hon. Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa (MP) has served as the Prime Minister of Tanzania since 2015. He was born on December 22, 1960, in Mnacho Village, Ruangwa District, Lindi Region, Tanzania. He is the third of five children. He is married to Mary Mbawala, and they have four children—two sons and two daughters.

Education and Early Career
Hon. Majaliwa attended Mnacho Primary School from 1970 to 1976 before enrolling at Kigonsera Secondary School from 1977 to 1980. He later pursued a Grade ‘A’ Teaching Course at Mtwara Teachers’ Training College (TTC) from 1981 to 1983 and specialized in Physical Education, Sports, and Culture at Butimba Teachers’ College from 1987 to 1989.

Furthering his studies, he attended Jyvaskyla University and Pajulahti Sports Institute in Finland, focusing on sports training. He later completed his A’ Level education at Mtwara TTC (1991-1993) and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (B.Ed) from the University of Dar es Salaam (1994-1998). In 1999, he completed a Post-Graduate Diploma at the Institute of Education, University of Stockholm in Sweden.

Hon. Majaliwa is also an experienced football coach. He has attended multiple football coaching courses, including advanced programs in Tanzania and Finland, and served as an Assistant Instructor for the Tanzania Football Federation.

With over 15 years of experience in teaching, he taught at various primary and secondary schools as well as teacher training colleges. He also served as a registrar and sports coordinator at Mtwara TTC under the Tanzania-Finland Sports for All Project. He was actively involved in teachers’ unions, serving as District and Regional Secretary of the Tanzania Teachers’ Union (TTU) and later as a National Council Member from 2000 to 2006.

Political Career
Hon. Majaliwa entered politics in 2010 as a Member of Parliament for Ruangwa Constituency (CCM). He was appointed as Deputy Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government Authority – PMO-RALG) responsible for Education, a role he held until 2015.

Previously, he served as District Commissioner for Urambo District (Tabora Region) from 2006 to 2009, before being transferred to Rufiji District (Coast Region) in 2009.

Since 2015, he has been the Prime Minister of Tanzania, playing a key role in the government’s administration, policy implementation, and economic development initiatives.
