Nana PHIRI

Head of Corporate Client Group, Rand Merchant Bank

Nana Phiri is the Head of Corporate Client Group and part of Rand Merchant Bank’s Corporate & Institutional Executive Committee. She is a senior financial services leader with more than 15 years’ experience in the investment banking and insurance sector. Nana was previously the CEO of Sanlam Specialised Finance responsible for balance sheet and financial risk management for Sanlam. She served as a member of Sanlam Investment Group Executive Committee and was the chairperson of various committees within Sanlam Specialised Finance.

Prior to joining Sanlam, Nana was the Co-Head of Debt & Trade Solutions responsible for lending and trade solutions for corporates within the investment banking division of Rand Merchant Bank. She joined RMB in 2012 and has held several roles with distinction. Throughout her career, she has managed to work on several landmark and award-winning transactions in South Africa and the broader African continent.

Nana graduated with a Master of Science degree in Finance from SOAS (University of London) and holds a Business Science Finance and Economics degree from the University of Cape Town. She has also concluded an Executive Leadership Programme with Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.

Nana has been awarded the Black Management Forum’s Black Excellence Award for Manager of the Year 2022. She has over her career been nominated for numerous industry awards. Nana is responsible for the strategy and growth of RMB Corporate Clients. She is passionate about the African continent and its development as a key imperative for a more sustainable future. She believes that everything rises and falls on leadership and is passionate about being part of the solution, which includes grooming and bringing out the best in others. In her role, she works with an incredible team that is passionate about fulfilling the needs of our clients and unlocking value for them through the solutions we bring.
