RETHINKING THE FUTURE OF PUBLIC SERVICE IN AFRICA
LEAD is a groundbreaking pan-African initiative to address one of Africa’s most persistent challenges: transforming the quality of public governance to match the continent’s remarkable economic and social potential. Africa has made remarkable economic and social progress over the past two decades. But this progress is now at risk from renewed debt pressures, geopolitical disruption, and an erosion of citizen trust in public institutions. LEAD was created in response to this urgency.
Our mission — Three imperatives for Africa’s governance
Pillar 1
Reposition public policy at the core of the development agenda
Based on a continental mapping of at least 30 countries, LEAD identifies around 50 high-level civil servants aged 30 to 45, with an excellent academic background, a track record of impact in office and a change-maker attitude.
Pillar 2
Empower the next generation of policymakers
An immersive multi-day leadership retreat addressing major public policy successes, best-in-class governance standards, and leadership development through intimate dialogue with former heads of state, successful ministers, and global CEOs from Africa and the Global South.
Pillar 3
Create a powerful network
Year-round engagement through digital events, policy publications, newsletters and annual ACF convenings, building Africa’s largest community of reform-minded public officials.
Digital Public Infrastructure today represents for Africa what roads and ports were a century ago: a fundamental lever of transformation. LEAD is proud to support a new generation of African policymakers by giving them access to the best practices of the Global South to accelerate the development of tailored and sovereign DPI.”
