Regional Director for North Africa and Horn of Africa, IFC
Mr. Sylla possesses a wealth of global investment and development expertise, spanning over 30 years, with a particular focus on Africa and the Middle East regions. Currently serving as IFC’s Director for North Africa and Horn of Africa, based in Cairo, Egypt, Cheick Oumar Sylla is responsible for overseeing operations in Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Sudan, South Sudan, Djibouti, Eritrea and Somalia.
Prior to joining IFC in May 2017 as Principal Investment Officer for Africa Infrastructure and Natural Resources in Dakar, Cheick-Oumar held several distinguished leadership roles across various industries in Africa and Europe. His experience extends to the pharmaceutical, real estate, banking, and energy sectors, where he played a pivotal role in establishing and nurturing successful business ventures.
In July 2019, Cheick-Oumar assumed the role of IFC’s Country Manager for the Horn of Africa, overseeing Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Sudan, and South Sudan. Despite encountering challenges, he successfully expanded IFC’s presence and bolstered its project pipeline within the region.
Cheick-Oumar is a graduate of École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC) in Montréal, Canada, and is also a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD).
