Kojo Boakye is Meta’s Vice President of Public Policy for Africa, the Middle East and Türkiye. Kojo is an experienced ICT for Development practitioner, with 20 years’ experience working with governments, fixed-line and mobile operators, development partners, online service providers, content creators, and civil society organisations.
Before joining Meta more than eight years ago, Kojo was the Deputy Executive Director of the Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI), and prior to that, the Head of Research and Consultancy at the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO). In addition to an MSc in Development Studies, Kojo holds a BA in African History and Development Studies from SOAS, University of London. The history and socio-economic development of Africa, the Middle East and Türkiye remain his areas of personal and professional interest, guiding his work.
In recent years, his work has focused on broadband affordability and infrastructure development; the use of mobile infrastructure and devices for the delivery of social services; strategic planning for ICT regulators; tech regulation, privacy, and competition; and the evolution of the Metaverse and Artificial Intelligence. In 2023, Kojo was listed among the UK’s top 100 most influential Black people, recognised for his “ability to influence events and positively change lives within the context of Black communities in the UK or elsewhere, as demonstrated over a reasonable period of time”.
