Abdoul Karim DIALLO
CEO, SONOCO GROUP
Born on November 3, 1985, in the Republic of Guinea and raised in Conakry, Abdoul Karim Diallo comes from a family deeply rooted in entrepreneurship and a strong work ethic. His father, Mamadou Saliou Diallo, founded SONOCO Group in the 1990s, laying the foundation for what has become a leading industrial group in Guinea.
When he joined the Group in 2009, Abdoul Karim Diallo chose a hands-on learning path. He worked on construction sites, oversaw port operations, and gained a comprehensive understanding of the entire value chain. In this environment, merit and performance—not lineage—defined advancement. These formative experiences shaped his discipline and grounded, execution-driven leadership style.
Today, as Chief Executive Officer of SONOCO Group, Abdoul Karim Diallo has led the transformation of a local trading business into a diversified and integrated industrial group with a growing regional footprint.
Under his leadership, SONOCO Group has expanded into key sectors including flour milling, metallurgy, beverages, agriculture, construction, logistics, and real estate.
He notably led the acquisition of Nestlé Guinea, revitalized local production, and strengthened industrial synergies across the Group’s entities. He also spearheaded the development of Salam beverages, producing water, juices, and energy drinks.
As a natural extension of this strategy, he has driven the establishment of an integrated agricultural and poultry value chain, covering the full spectrum from input production to processing and distribution. This initiative contributes to strengthening food security and building a more resilient agricultural ecosystem in Guinea.
In parallel, he initiated a co-packing partnership with Coca-Cola, reflecting the confidence placed in SONOCO Group by leading global brands.
The Group is now expanding across the subregion, developing new industrial platforms and exporting its products throughout West Africa—marking a new phase in its ambition to foster industrial self-sufficiency and regional integration.
As part of this transformation, Abdoul Karim Diallo has modernized management systems through the digitalization of operations, notably with solutions such as SAP. He has also built high-performing teams, including talent from the Guinean diaspora, and established a governance framework anchored in performance, accountability, and operational excellence.
For Abdoul Karim Diallo, industrial development is a cornerstone of economic and social transformation. His vision is centered on creating local value, empowering talent, and building globally competitive African industries.
He firmly believes that “Africa’s future lies in its ability to produce rather than depend,” and has embedded this conviction into a long-term strategy driven by disciplined execution, innovation, and sustainable impact.
In 2018, he completed the Program for Leadership Development (PLD) at Harvard Business School, further sharpening his strategic perspective and reinforcing his commitment to Africa’s industrial advancement.
Abdoul Karim Diallo’s leadership has gained recognition at the continental level. He has been nominated among the Choiseul 100 Africa, which highlights the most influential young economic leaders shaping Africa’s transformation.
Through his work, he represents a new generation of African leaders committed to strengthening local capacity, advancing industrial independence, and unlocking the continent’s economic potential.
At 40, Abdoul Karim Diallo stands as one of the emerging figures shaping West Africa’s industrial landscape. With a structured approach, a strong results orientation, and a deep sense of responsibility, he is driving a long-term vision of sustainable transformation.
From Guinea to Sierra Leone and beyond, his journey reflects the promise of an Africa that builds, produces, and thrives on its own strength.
