Hon. Bouna Sylla
Minister of Mines and Geology, Republic of Guinea

Bouna Sylla has been a prominent figure in Guinea’s mining sector for nearly two decades. A lawyer and tax specialist by training, he has played a pivotal role in the negotiation of mining agreements and in strengthening the fiscal framework governing the sector.

Prior to his appointment as Minister of Mines and Geology in March 2024, he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Compagnie du TransGuinéen (CTG), where he contributed significantly to advancing strategic mining infrastructure projects.

Under his leadership, substantial progress has been achieved in the development of the Simandou mega-project one of the world’s largest untapped iron ore deposits—set to transform Guinea’s transport infrastructure and position the country as a leading iron ore exporter in Africa. He is also spearheading efforts to promote local value addition, particularly in the alumina refining sector, by overseeing key projects led by major bauxite operators.

In recognition of his outstanding service to the nation, he has been elevated to the rank of Officer of the National Order of Merit and awarded the Medal of Honour for Labour by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Guinea, Mamadi DOUMBOUYA in 2026 , reflecting his significant contributions to the development and integration of Guinea’s mining sector.

Driven by a pragmatic vision and strong expertise in natural resource governance, Minister Sylla has contributed to consolidating Guinea’s position as the world’s leading exporter of bauxite  in 2025 and as an increasingly influential player in the global mining industry.
